Wilnecote & Hockley

The Holy Trinity Church Wilnecote Part of the History of the area

Wilnecote & Hockley is a fantastic community with equally community active residents wanting to see a difference and take part in keeping it a safe, clean and better place for all.   Lee has met and worked with so many great people since being elected in the Wilnecote area and below are some of the groups he has had the pleasure of supporting and help set up working together with local residents, working hard for Wilnecote.

WILNECOTE & HOCKLEY ACTION GROUP

Cllr Lee Bates after being elected onto Tamworth Borough Council had been approached by many local residents in the Wilnecote Area about setting up a local residents association.

Back on June 29th 2006 was the first meeting to ask residents if they would be interested in forming a residents group.  25 residents turned up to the initial meeting and have since embarked on a journey that saw the residents group meet on a monthly basis and formally formed as a constituted group in January 2007.

The Wilnecote & Hockley Action Group is proud to be a NON-POLITICAL GROUP supported by PACT (Partners & Communities Together) which sees all the major agencies in the local area such as the Police, Wilnecote police officer Malcolm Dickinson & PCSO Debbie Harrison, Tamworth Borough Council, Staffordshire County Council, your local street wardens Brian Lees & James Vanstone, your local elected representatives County Councillor Carol Dean & borough councillors Mary Oates & Brian Bealle who all come together each month and work with YOU the residents of Wilnecote to solve local issues.

We have a strong committee which includes Chairman Graham Holt & Secretary Tina Clements. You can see me there in action with the partners listening and taking action on the issues that matter to you.

THE MEETINGS ARE EVERY LAST WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH HELD AT WILNECOTE HIGH SCHOOL 7PM.

FRIENDS OF TOWN WALL CONSERVATION GROUP

The Friends of Town Wall conservation group is being set up after residents highlighted concerns over the state of the public footpath that runs from the Hockley Road to Hedging Lane.  The Group became constituted in January 2008 and residents are now going to look at a development plan to map out the long term work that will need to be done on this area.  A recent logo competition was launched for the group with Wilnecote Girl Guides (Pic is of Winning Logo) and the group are having a stall at this years Wild About Tamworth event in the Castlegrounds on June 14th.  Funding applications are now being saught to help with the development of the Town Wall and residents surveys are being delivered in the area as part of the consultation process..

An application has been submitted to the peopls millions for £30,000 so watch this space for more details.

The Next meeting of the group will be on Thursday 19th June 2008 at 7,15pm Wilnecote High School any one wishing to know more or get involved can contact Lee on 07794049312
