A petition campaign set up by local Wilnecote resident Mr Michael Hunter of Brook Avenue has been launched to see the return of a bus service along the Old A5 Watling Street.   Since the former Aline bus service running along the Watling Street was removed there hasn’t been a bus service along this route for some time  leaving bus stops redundant and residents without a service they need.  Over 200 people have signed the petition in the first week by residents all over Wilnecote who say there is a need for the service to return along this road which used to take passengers to Tamworth Town Centre .

Cllr Lee Bates who is supporting Mr Hunter’s petition campaign says “A robust bus service means providing accessible routes for all residents across the town. I would like to see a bus service return along the old A5 which will not only benefit residents of Wilnecote, but particularly our elderly and disabled residents.”

Mr Hunter said “I have been determined to see a bus route return to the Old A5 Watling Street because the nearest bus stops are just not that accessible particularly if your an elderly or disabled resident..”

Cllr Lee Bates & Mr Michael Hunter have written to Arriva to arrange a date to hand in the petition at the end of October and hope to show them it would be a viable service and benefit to the local area.

The petition will be doing the rounds in the Wilnecote area but residents who have not yet had chance to sign it and would like to do so can by either contacting Cllr Lee Bates on 07794049312 or by going online to www.leebates.co.uk for the online petition or it will be available at the next Wilnecote & Hockley Residents Action Group Meeting on Wednesday 29th October at Wilnecote High School 7pm.
