The Friends of Wilnecote Litter Pickers have made it through to round 2 of the BURA Regeneration Awards sponsored by Government and Local Communities.  The next round of this event will be a site visit by the BURA Judging panel on Thursday 27th November 2008 where they will get to see the litter pickers in action.

Sponsored by Communities and Local Government the awards celebrate best practice in community inspired and led regeneration in urban and rural areas across the United Kingdom.  The Friends hope to make Wilnecote proud by winning an award which is recognition of community pride and another example of how Wilnecote Residents go the extra mile for their area.

The Litter Pickers now well established hold an annual fancy dress litter pick at Beauchamp Park which saw their first one a great success in June this year, plus they have helped identify litter hotspots and locations for new bins in the area.

Lisa Powers the Co-coordinator for the group said “We are really looking forward to meeting the judging panel and really excited about getting to round two of these awards.  If successful in getting an award it will be a recognition of the dedication of the many local residents who have been volunteering every month for nearly 3 years to promote community pride and help keep Wilnecote a tidy place.”
