Dosthill & Wilnecote are the latest school areas to benefit from the new 20MPH Permenant road safety signs near our local schools. The signs not only inform motorists of the 20mph speed limit in place but the department of Transport has also ruled that they are enforceable so that motorists can be charged if they choose to ignore them.
The signs are located along Dosthill High Street and along the Watling Street in Wilnecote.
County Councillor Lee Bates said “This is a first class safety scheme and I am sure it will recieve full support from our local community. The aim of the project is to drastically change driver behaviour. We dont’t want motorists putting children at risk by speeding past schools when pupils are being dropped off or picked up. The impact Staffordshire is already the best in the UK for child road safety. Its a position achieved through innovative road safety action including the walking bus, and safer routes to school programmes and a host of education and training projects.”
“ The 20mph zone initiative is a continuation of a winning formula. These new signs give
Motorists a clear warning - slow down around schools Hit a child at 20mph and they have a chance
Of Survival, but this drops dramatically by 30Mph” Lee added.
