Working Hard for you

A team of workers from a Tamworth building society will be swapping their smart suits and shoes for spades and secateurs this weekend. Staff from Coventry Building Society are offering their services as conservation volunteers for Staffordshire Wildlife Trust on Saturday, November 1.

The group will be working on the Town Wall site, a derelict piece of land in Wilnecote that the charity is hoping to transform into an urban oasis.

Wild About Tamworth project officer Shelley Arnold explained: "A few months ago we set up a group of volunteers, the Town Wall Conservation Group, and they have started to make the area more attractive for wildlife and the local community.

"The team from the building society are giving up their time for free and we really appreciate their help. They will be doing some coppicing, litter picking and general tidying up of the

site."

Shelley added that the Town Wall Conservation Group were also working on submitting abid for funding to improve access to Town Wall.

She said: "An application has gone in this week for a grant to fund a footpath, which will make Town Wall safer and more accessible. Our aim is to restore Town Wall to its former glory, putting the pond back and planting a wild flower meadow area."

The Town Wall Conservation Group´s next meeting is on Sunday, November 9 from

10.30am - 1.30pm. Anyone wanting to help out will be offered a warm welcome. Hot drinks and all equipment will be provided, and volunteers are advised to wear warm outdoor clothing and sturdy boots. Meet at Sycamore, off Hockley Road. For more information, email Shelley Arnold on s.arnold@staffs-wildlife.org.uk or phone 01889 880100.
